Josie Guthrey

Ciao, my name is Josie Guthrey. I am a Creative Media Production student from Dallas, Texas. Although I prefer TexMex food, I have gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of Italian cuisine (and coffee) which inspired this article!

Cute, Quaint and
Charming Caffé

The second I stepped into Antico Caffé Novecento, I was met with a beautiful array of different bakery items and sweets, all presented beautifully. I pointed at a mysterious-looking baked good resembling a French croissant but with a rich custard filling on top.

“I'll get this!”

The sweet barista carefully pointed at every item until he landed on the mystery croissant and I gave him a thumbs up.

“What is this called?” I asked. “A cornetto con crema!” he responded.

I decided to order a cappuccino in proper Italian fashion; the total coming out to €5. If a cappuccino isn't to your taste, Antico Caffé offers a thorough menu with every coffee option you could possibly want… except for iced coffee.

I sat in the padded cafe chairs and studied the decor as I waited for the coffee. Beautiful, ornate and colorful lamps lit the room as fresh air was let in by the open door.

The barista, a younger man, made my coffee while chatting with other customers. I asked him questions as I waited, discussing his school, Oklahoma and the upcoming joust.

My coffee was made and served beautifully, placed delicately on a plate with a candy on the side. I started to dig in, sitting at a small table decorated with magazines and flowers.

The cappuccino was everything I wanted it to be, sweet but still the right amount of coffee taste, foamy and hot. The cornetto was a perfect match, the bread impeccably flaky and finely baked. The creamy filling was exceptional, smooth and slightly tart.

I savored each bite, occasionally dipping it into the coffee. I enjoyed watching the other customers pass by until the last bite. Just when I thought it was over, I remembered the candy hiding behind the cup.

It was a small piece of rice chocolate, sweet and crunchy. I washed it down with the last sip of cappuccino, perfectly wrapping up my meal. The cafe had a great impact, despite its size.

Overall, it was a really warm and lovely cafe. Small and welcoming with a friendly staff, I loved Antico Caffé Novecento and would highly recommend it for a quick bite or if you're in the mood for a caffeine boost.
